With the EPD adjustment in summer 2017, 2XL Exploration 5230 became the #1 non-parent bull in the Angus breed for yearling weight.  Today he remains the #3 non-parent bull at YW +181 and #6 non-parent bull for WW at +102. As a calf we knew he was special with an adjusted weaning weight of 797lbs on grass only/no creep feed that was 130 lbs greater than an average of the next 3 contemporaries who went on to win the Midland Bull Test “World Champion Pen of 3” for highest ADG in 2016.  No other bull in the breed, parent or non-parent, can match his traits of economic importance with $value indexes over $W +95, $F +165 and $B +18.  His 50k profile also puts him in rare company with his combination of growth, carcass, and maternal genetics with 8 traits in the top 10%, including top 1% WW, YW, and CW; top 2% for CEM, RE, and Fat; and top 10% for SC and Doc. Unfortunately, we lost Exploration to an injury sustained while on test, thus semen supplies are incredibly limited.   His first calf was born this fall and we are anxiously waiting for several more calves to arrive in spring 2018.  Fortunately, we still have his full brother, 2XL Ragnar 5908, for use as a natural service sire in the herd today.

“Beau” is a full brother to 2XL Exploration 5230 with stellar performance in his own right with the highest adjusted yearling weight of any bull raised in our herd!  His 50k profile puts him in rare company with his combination of growth, carcass, and maternal genetics with 6 traits in the top 10%, including top 1% WW, YW, and CW and top 10% for Doc, CEM, and Milk.

His dam, Erica of Ellston M231, was a 2014 selection as an open heifer from the Hoover Angus herd and stems from the cow family that produced Hoover Dam and includes the great Erica of Ellston R155 cow which produced 12 NR@112 with a 363 day calving interval. M231 is an extremely deep bodied donor with a picture perfect udder and exceptional docility who has consistently produced some of the top calves in our herd every year, including 2XL TenX 5208, part of the “World Champion Pen of 3” at the 2016 Midland Bull Test with an 136 ADG ratio against some of the top bulls in the country. 

His first calves just arrived this fall 2017 and have had excellent look and growth!
